Dan,

I'm a PPG jobber. The color you are looking for really isn't an issue. I use my PPG "Prophet" probably 8 to 10 times a day on the average. I find that as long as I have the computer make a formula in either Deltron DBC basecoat or PPG Global (my personal favorite) I have a 95% hit rate.

Granted, if you don't plan on blending your repairs, even if you find the exact colors the truck was painted you won't get a 100% match.

Paint chips aren't a true indicator of color either. I've seen variations in color books produced by the same manufacturer.

Color match can be affected by a great number of things. Spray gun choice, different air cap / fluid nozzle combinations, air pressure, solvent choice, environmental conditions, painter technique etc.

The truth is; You and I could each paint something with the same can of paint and end up with a visibly different color.

Have a paint jobber read the truck with their computer and generate a formula. Have them print you a copy of the formula to save and you will never have to wonder about your colors again.

Subject: Re: [Chevelle-list] Custom Paint color?

Rick the paint website helped. I sent it to the owner and he thinks he knows the color. I will still get the color scanned to verify if he is right in Rosenberg at  AJ Foyt’s paint. We still don’t know the trim color, but we’re working on it. One problem is viewing the color on your monitor. I plan on checking the color chip out at a local body shop tomorrow.

I have also sent emails to PPG and DuPont. What will it hurt?

Again thanks!
