Thanks for the info! I'll be sure to report what I end up with.

The Cherokee steering Box swap has been discussed for 2 or 3 years at the
suspension forum of Chevelle Tech. JIML82 ( Jim Shea ) is a retired Saginaw
engineer and I believe he is the person who first mentioned it.

The biggest benefit of this box is that it is closer to 64-72 Chevelles in
degrees of travel than any other stock quick ratio steering box. Jim has
links to several of his info pages here:
http://www.chevelles.com/techref/ftecref29.html Its well worth reading if
you want a quick ratio box. I've never read comments by anyone who was less
than satisfied with the swap. Except for the hose connection & coupler the
box is a bolt in.

Hi Tom,

This sounds pretty interesting. Can you email me some pics of the box? My
recently acquired '66 has manual steering and I'm definitely going to
upgrade to power, so for about $100, it's worth a shot! Thanks.

Is anyone else considering putting a Jeep Cherokee steering box in their
Chevelle? Some guys out on LS1tech.com and protouring.com
<http://protouring.com/> are doing it, and say it is absolutely incredible.
I picked up a steering box from a 1996 Jeep Cherokee (with speed sensitive
steering) at the local pick and pull for $25. The new steering coupler (rag
joint) that mates it to the Chevelle steering column costs about $75 at
Leepowersteering.com <http://leepowersteering.com/> (yikes), but that puts
me at only $100 for the whole set-up. Try getting modern steering feel,
quick ratio (3 turns lock to lock) and speed sensitive technology for 8
times that much. Okay - the stock power steering fittings will not fit -
but those on the LS1/LS2 I am installing this summer bolt right up. And
even if I want to use the classic engine, Leepowersteering sells the
adapters to mate the whole thing up. The pitman arm on the Jeep box won' t
work - but the Chevelle pitman arm bolts right on - and everything is in the
right place. If this works - and those that have done it say it does - this
is going to be the best low-buck high-tech discovery I have yet to come
across for our cars.

What do you all think - is this too good to be true?
