To add to what Chuck said, my 76 Stingray was the same way. To me, its all part of "the experience". I know a lot of people will disagree, but I honestly look forward to being exposed to noises. About a month ago, I had to fly to Kentucky for my uncle's funeral. The rental car I ended up getting was a Mazda 3. The car was so quiet, it drove me insane. I'm used to hearing the noisy tires on my truck and the wind noise and the big V-8 engine with the dual exhaust. 5 minutes outside the airport, I found myself jamming down the road in that Mazda 3 at 110 mph because all that feedback I get from my truck was gone. It's a good thing I never got pulled over. I decided to use the cruise control from then on.
So, back to the point, if you're not a big fan of noise like that, you may want to avoid the Vette. I dunno what a 2000 is like but my '76 had a lot of the same kind of noise. I loved it but it doesn't sound like you will.
