I haven't been to a race at Texas Speedway but I've been to a couple of Good Guys shows there. Depends on where you stay I suppose. The track is only a couple of blocks off I-35 so it's not too bad. I've only used the south entrance/exit and it can be a problem making a left turn (going east) from there but I'd think they'd have some type of traffic control coming out. There are four or five entrances/exits but I've never used the others. Looks like the Nextel Cup happy hour is thrown in that timeframe somewhere.
I've only been to one Nextel Cup race (Kansas Speedway) and arrived about an hour and a half early. No special activities went on except for driver introductions and monies awarded from previous races - most laps led, best pit stop, fastest lap, stuff like that. If you've never been to a live race I'm sure you'll enjoy it!
