Brad- On a mild “stock” engine I would expect to get 10 to 20 years out of
a set of mounts, provided they did not get oil soaked. It’s likely that you
got poor quality replacements.

Poly mounts will be a little stiffer than rubber, but should not be
noticeable, especially with a mild engine. Another benefit is that with
Energy Suspension mounts, they are locked, so they cannot come apart. Visit
your local FLAPS for more information. Probably available on the web as
well.

I run solids on my 64 with a healthy BB. It cured a problem I had been
having with the stock mounts deflecting enough to allow the trans to twist
and not engage 2nd gear under full throttle. With a balanced motor I don’t
notice the vibration from them, but I do really notice the solid lifters and
other mechanical noise.

How long do they mormally last. My Chevelle is no monster, but my driver
side engine mount just let loose and I replaced it about two years ago. The
previous one lasted maybe ten years, which seems much more reasonable.

Do you think I just got a crappy mount? I'd hate to go solid, and I think
that even the poly mounts would still transmit a lot of noise and vibration
to the car, but I also don't want to be replacing the darn thing every few
years.
