I've heard basically the same thing.   Also heard different solutions.  1-
Add the GM new engine oil additive at each oil change.  2 - Rotella (sp?) is
a Shell diesel motor oil that works.  If you check the engine forum at
Chevelle Tech there is a whole lot of more complete info on the subject.
