I have a MSD 6AL unit in my 71 with a big block. I opened up the gap to .050. The only issue I came across is if you don't use a pliers type plug gapper you can't get the ground electrode square to the center electrode. The larger gap gives you the benefit of a larger spark kernel and a more efficient burn. The fat spark generated by the MSD ignition could jump a hundred thousandths gap without a blink. However, I'm talking about a full MSD, or equivalent, ignition system...box, coil, distributor and wires, not a box used with stock parts.
