Thanks in advance for your assistance on this one. We are building a 67
Chevelle and upgrading the engine compartment to a 402 CU IN engine. I
have attempted to install a set of headers with no luck. The passenger's
side fits with the exception of one of the tubes rubbing against the
rear upper A-arm bolt (minor fix- dimple the header tube for clearance).
The real problem is the driver's side. One of the primary header tubes
makes contact with the frame just to the rear of the left motor mount
requiring significant modification to the headers (to the point that I
will certainly damage the Ceramic coating on the header) or significant
cutting into the frame. The header I have purchased is the Patriot
mid-length header Model- PTE-H8012-1. I wanted the mid-length header
solely to allow ground clearance, as I expect the front of the car to be
lowered between 2 and 3 inches.
Has anyone encountered this and can provide a easy solution. Checking
the Summit catalog the Patriot Header was the only mid-length available
for the Chevelle. I'm not opposed to a long tube header as long as they
don't create a significant ground clearance problem as the Chevelle will
be a street car. Thanks, Tom
