The triangular pad is brazed on by the manufacturer. If it is actually leaking 
between the pad and the pan then you are going to need to pull and replace.
Sometimes the dipstick can leak if improperly installed or if it has a bad

from the oil pan on my 454 '70SS.  Appears to be coming from the triangular pad 
on the oil pan (passenger side) that houses the dip stick.  Looks as if the 
previous owner applied some sealant to this pad.Question - how should this pad 
attached to the oil pan?  Is it to be welded?    Or what? If it requires
