KOLKATA: Five small-town Jharkhand boys, who had come to the city to meet
Sourav Ganguly, were rescued by police on Wednesday.

After coming to Kolkata they realised their idol was not in town.
Disappointed, the five then thought of going to Mumbai, this time to meet
Shahrukh Khan. But that was not to be. A team from the New Market police
station found them shivering in the cold close to midnight on a Mirza Ghalib
Street pavement.

The five - Avinash Kumar, Nabendu Tudu, Nikhil Munda, Krishna Gope and Manoj
Kumar Behera - are students of Class VI at the Jadugoda Atomic Research
Centre School. They idolised the cricketer and film-star and wanted to meet
them both. As Kolkata was closer to home, it was their first choice. For the
last few months, they had been saving their pocket money.

On Tuesday morning, they left their homes wearing school uniforms. From
Jadugoda they boarded a bus to Jamshedpur. They reached the steel city
sometime in the afternoon and then took a train to Kolkata. It was late at
night when they reached Howrah. They crossed the Hooghly and reached
Esplanade. From the few people they met on the way, the five asked where
Sourav stayed and were told the cricket team is in Australia. The five ate
at a roadside shop, but with no place to stay, took refuge on a Mirza Ghalib
Street footpath.

A police patrol noticed them and stopped to enquire. The cops took the boys
to the police station and then to a CINI-ASHA home. Police also informed
their parents, who later took them back home.
