CAMPAÑA EDUCATIVA Chicago Interfaith Committee on Worker Issues y Chicago Workers Collaborative anuncian inicio de campaña en contra de los abusos a los trabajadores hispanos en el barrio de Pilsen Ambas organizaciones se unen para educar a la comunidad y denunciar los abusos, trabajadores miembros de estas organizaciones realizaran una caravana y plantón en el barrio de Pilsen parando y denunciando a estas compañías que deberían tener vergüenza de su actitud hacia ellos. Haremos una denuncia en frente de cada una de estas compañías que están violando la ley para denunciar como los trabajadores han sido sus victimas. Iniciaremos la caravana a las 11 am. EDUCATIVE CAMPAIN Chicago Interfaith Committee on Worker Issues and Chicago Workers Collaborative announce the beginning of a campaign against the abuses of the workers in the Pilsen neighborhood. Both worker centers are coming together to educate the community and denounce the workplace abuses. Members of these organizations are going to march in the neighborhood and stop at the doors of the companies to request their unpaid wages and ask for their rights and better work conditions. The press conference will take place in front of one of the companies, the Pilsen restaurant La Condesa located at 2230 S Ashland Ave. We are going to begin our tour at 11 am, press conference at 1 pm. A worker bought materials and performed work for Metro Urban Construction and Remodeling. He submitted receipts to the secretary but never got reimbursed for his work. Tommy Milutinovich, the owner of Metro Urban refused to pay the worker and ignored the attempts of Chicago Interfaith Worker Center to contact him and resolve the problem. The worker is owed 2,600 in unpaid wages and materials. The employer tries to avoid responsibility by simply not responding to the phone calls, correspondence and office visits. La Condesa Restaurant In 2006 workers of La Condesa filled a wage and hour claim against the company. For many years the company has not paid overtime or minimum wage. In June 2008 five workers from La Condesa were fired in retaliation because they confronted the owner Estela Manjarrez and filed a wage claim on behalf others workers. On Tuesday, October 14th, Martha Sanchez, Reyna Ruiz, Cordelia Reyes, Tomas Jacinto and Javier Jimenez, the former workers of La Condesa are going to deliver a letter - petition to the owners that asks for better working conditions and requests to stop the work abuses at La Condesa. Retaliation in any form is illegal and it should not happen in our neighborhood. Blue Island Produce Inc. Worker of Blue Island Produce Inc. was injured at work by his boss who was driving a forklift carelessly, The owner promised to pay all the medical and hospital expenses as well as the time the worker had to take off due to the accident. This never happened though and the worker, Fernando Velazquez received nothing but two weeks of pay. Español: Metro Urban Co. Un trabajador compro los materiales e hiso el trabajo para Metro Urban, el entrego los recibos a la secretaria de la compañía pero nunca le devolvieron el dinero, Tommy Milutinovich, es el dueño de Metro Urban y se ha negado constantemente a pagar el dinero asi como ha contactarse con el Comité Interfaith de Chicago para resolver el problema. Al trabajador le deben 2,600 dólares en salarios y materiales que el compro. La Condesa Restaurant En 2006 trabajadores de La Condesa pusieron una queja por falta de pago en contra de la compañía, esta compañía por años no pago el tiempo extra de los trabajadores y aun ahora continua si pagar el salario mínimo. En junio de 2008 cinco trabajadores de La Condesa fueron despedidos bajo diferentes pretextos por la dueña la Sra. Estela Manjarrez. Martha Sánchez, Reyna Ruiz, Cordelia Reyes, Tomas Jacinto y Javier Jiménez ex trabajadores de La Condesa van a entregar una carta en persona pidiéndole a los dueños de La Condesa que paren los abusos y que se mejoren las condiciones de trabajo en sus instalaciones. Las represalias en cualquier forma son ilegales en los Estados Unidos y no deben de pasar en nuestro barrio. Blue Island Produce Inc. Ex trabajador de Blue Island Produce Inc. fue lastimado en su trabajo por el mismo patrón quien sin precaución manejaba un forklift, ante esta situación el patrón prometió pagar todas las semanas que tomara la curación del trabajador y pagar el costo del hospital y las medicinas pero esto no sucedió, Fernando Velázquez solo recibió dos semanas de pago y nada mas. _________________________________________________________________ Get more from your digital life.
