Citizens for Omar N. Lopez announce a public march and rally on Sunday, Oct.
26, "Bail Out Working Families, Our Families Know No Borders." The assembly for
the march will begin at 1:00 p.m. at the corner of 26th and Central Park and
the march will end at the site of the rally, Manuel Perez Plaza (26th and
Kolin), at 2:00 p.m.
In addition, Omar Lopez is happy to accept a request to debate the issues on
Monday, Oct. 27 at Casa Atzlan, 1831 S. Racine Ave. The debate was called by
the Little Village Environmental Justice Organization (LVEJO), the Pilsen
Environmental Rights and Reform Organization (PERRO), and the Committee Against
the Militarization of our Youth (CAMY). Lopez is eager to meet with the other
candidates and present to 4th District voters his proposals for reforming
immigration, ending the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, protecting the
environment and dealing with the state of the U.S. economy in its current
financial crisis.
"Residents of the 4th District have been betrayed by their current Congressman,
Rep. Luis Gutierrez," says Lopez. "Gutierrez has refused to stand up for just
immigration policies that allow families to stick together and has instead
supported financial policies that offer billions to bail out Wall Street while
leaving working families in increasing debt. Gutierrez must resign! The voters
of the 4th congressional district should fire Gutierrez with their votes on
Nov. 4 for his failure to defend our interests and welfare."
Green Party Candidate Omar Lopez will be present to speak about his plans for
immigration and economic justice for residents of the 4th District. As a member
of the House of Representatives, Omar will put forth policies that will put us
first:
—Promote an economic stimulus package aimed at working families, including a
federally-supported public works program that will offer long-term viable jobs,
tax reform that benefits working people, and debt forgiveness. By investing in
the American people, the government can stimulate the economy while mitigating
our suffering.
—Advance immigration AND labor policies that protect the rights of all workers,
including amnesty for immigrants. The current practice of reducing all labor
issues to solely targeting and criminalizing undocumented workers jeopardizes
the Constitutional rights and financial stability of citizens as well as
non-citizens.
—Revise free trade agreements to include universal standards for taxation,
wages, worker's rights and the environment. By improving the standards in other
countries, we can keep jobs within the U.S. and prevent massive immigration
from other countries as people leave their homes to find better conditions here.
—Support single-payer universal healthcare for all. By guaranteeing healthcare
coverage to every American, we can reduce the burden of medical costs on
working families.
Other Green Party candidates will be speaking at the Oct. 26 rally, including:
Ante Marijan: Illinois State Legislature, 2nd District
Jack Ailey: Water Reclamation District
Paloma Andrade: Clerk of the Circuit Court
The event will be hosted by Alberto Bocanegra, Chairman of the Cook County
Green Party.
The rally will also feature music, performances and a piñata.
