Immigrant Families From Pilsen & Little Village Will Hold 24 Prayer Vigil &
Fasting
To Demand the Removal of their Corrupt Congressman Luis Gutierrez
Chicago – The Chicago Tribune disclosed to the public that a federal
investigation has been made into Congressman Luis Gutierrez and his
intervention on behalf of Cal Boender, a developer who loaned him $200,000.00
for a personal real estate deal. This real estate deal was for a commercial
project that had already been rejected by City hall. This land was suppose to
be used for industrial development to provide jobs fro 4th Congressional
District residents but was instead used to build high-priced homes and a movie
theater. This investigation has confirmed to residents what they have been
suspecting for years about the abuse of power their Congressman has been
committing.
Father Jose Landaverde stated, “We the community are demanding the resignation
of Congressman Gutierrez for the better of our families. Our families are
persecuted because of the broken laws…we do not need a liar like Luis Gutierrez
to be representing our families!!!”
The Pilsen and Little Village areas are under the 4th Congressional District
and has a large population of Latinos, many who are immigrants that have come
to realize that Congressman Gutierrez has flat out lied to them with regards to
an Immigration Reform. The Congressman voted for the STRIVE Act of 2007. The
bill was referred to to a House Appropriation committee, where provisions of
the bill criminalized undocumented workers were funded through the Consolidated
Appropriations Act of 2008. Congressman Gutierrez signed on to this
legislation that militarized the US/Mexico border. He allowed the federalizing
of local law enforcement agencies by providing the financing for “Detention and
Removal Operations”. He allowed the expanding of the Immigration Customs
Enforcement Agency (ICE) by giving them more financining for their operations
against the undocumented.
Omar Lopez a community activist who stated, “We MUST protect our families from
Luis Gutierrez, who has enabled ICE to conduct the latest raids and
deportations.”
Families directly impacted by the broken immigration laws along with community
leaders and residents who are registered voters will hold a 24 hour vigil and
fasting at the Aguilita Plaza. Many of the men are currently wearing house
arrest bracelets that ICE monitors. The men will be with there children to ask
for a representative in Congress that will defend them, something they feel a
Congressman like Gutierrez in not capable of after his deceit about the STRIVE
Act and his corrupt financial behavior.
