MAYAN CALENDAR NEWS: AN OPEN LETTER TO PRESIDENT-ELECT BARACK H. OBAMA

The Honorable President-elect Barack H. Obama

C/O - http://change.gov/page/s/contact

Dear Mr. Obama,

I first want to congratulate you on an excellent and amazing election victory.
No doubt, this milestone event in American presidential politics will be
analyzed, studied, and written about for generations to come. It truly is an
historic and important moment that will impact the way the world perceives the
USA.

I am writing to remind you of the factorss that played an important dynamic in
the conditions that led to the political climate that resulted in your historic
election victory.

Of course, your formidable talents and charisma had much to do with your
eventual success; but it was the mood of the nation that eventually fueled the
forces that led to the defeat of your democratic primary opponents, and to the
eventual defeat of the republican presidential nominee, John McCain.

First, remember that it was the will of the people, expressed in the 2006
mid-term congressional elections, for an END TO THE WAR IN IRAG AND AFGHANISTAN.

The indomitable anti-war activist, Cindy Sheehan, electrified the nation with
her defiant stand against the war when she chose to demonstrate her opposition
to the War in Iraq by establishing Camp Casey (named in honor of her fallen son
who was slain in Iraq) near the grounds of the ranch owned by President George
W. Bush.

It was Cindy Sheehan willingness to defy what seemed then as an insurmountable
obstacle, the political juggernaught of President Bush and his "politics of
fear and intimidation", that gave life and substance to a renewed anti-war
movement in the USA.

Second: In the spring of 2006, beginning in Chicago, Illinois on mrach 10th,
millions of Mexican-Americans, and latinos and immigrants of every persuasion
marched against the proposed immigration law, the Sensenbrenner/King HR 4437 -
THE ANTI TERRORISM, BORDER SECURITY AND ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION ACT.

The March 10, 2006 mega-march ignited a wave of similar marches across the
nation in every major city, and in small towns across the USA. You even spoke
at the May 1st 2006, Chicago immigration rally in support of this movement.

As a result of these massive mobilizations, millions of hispanics (the majority
being Mexican Americans), turned out in record numbers for the 2006 mid-term
elections and defeated the republican party majority in the U.S. House of
Representatives.  As a result of this significant defeat, Republican Speaker of
the House, Dennis Hastert resigned his congressional seat, in acknowledgement
that his support for the Bush immigration policies led to the defeat of the
republican party in 2006.

Needless to say. this activism of the Mexican American and latino immigrant
communities did not end there. The 2006 spring mega- marches have given birth
to a new wave of hispanic social and political activism throughout the nation.
This trend of dynamic activism resulted in your candidacy receining an
overwhelming majority of Mexican American/latino votes (68-72%) across the
nation. A vote that gave you a decisive election victory in key battle ground
states.

President-elect Obama, I presume you know all of this, but as I know that you
are extremely busy with the transition process, I find it necessary to bring
these details to your attention.

I re-state the major points of this letter, It was the wave of anti-war
mobilizations, and the massive demonstrations against the harsh immigration
enforcement policies of the Republican party and the Bush administration, that
contributed significantly to the defeat of the republican party in the
presidential election.

Now, having stated these facts, I get to the purpose of this letter:

President-elect Obama, do not forget who made your historic election victory
possible, and what forces were at play that created the conditions that
contributed to your success.

President-elect Obama, I am asking you to - 'DO THE RIGHT THING"!

End the war in Iraq and Afghanistan, as the people of the USA have expressed as
their will in the last two national election cycles.

President-elect Obama - "DO THE RIGHT THING"!

Bring an end to the failed draconian immigration policies of the Bush
administration.

President-elect Obama - "DO THE RIGHT THING"!

Issue an executive order for a moratorium on immigration raids, detentions and
deportations, and end the seperation of families.

President-elect Obama - "DO THE RIGHT THING"!

Take things even further. You have expressed admiration for the late President
Ronald Reagan. Follow his example, establish a national amnesty for
undocumented workers and their families in the USA. Stop the criminalization of
these families and workers.

President-elect Obama - "DO THE RIGHT THING"!

Close down GITMO!!! Repeal the Patriot Act, The Military Commisions Act, the
Military Tribunals, and return the Bill of Rights and the Constitution as the
foundation of this nation's democracy.

President-elect Obama - "DO THE RIGHT THING"!

Dismantle the national police state created by the Bush administration and the
"Neo-con" republicans.

Dismantle the Bush doctrine of global pre-emptive military action in defience
of international law and treaties.

Respect the soveriegnty of nations.

President-elect Obama, I exhort you to consider these actions and policies and
act on them decisively, as they are the will of the majority of voters that
elected you Presiden-elect of the USA!!!

I wish you the best and may the Lord bless you and protect you in this
momentous task that has been placed upon your shoulders...."THE LEADER OF THE
FREE WORLD"

Sincerely,

Carlos Perez
