CHICKEN is making some performance tradeoffs to provide more convenience

So, naturally, I prefer it over gambit. :-)
When I moved from Bigloo to Chicken, I was trading some performance for
better ease of use, slightly larger audience, some C++ compatibility,
and a better license. I still think of Chicken as "performance
oriented" in that it is a Scheme-->C compiler and is competitive in
Shootout benchmarks.
