(chicken memory representation) -- Requirement for record instances to be distinguished using symbols

The "record instance" interface in (chicken memory representation) 
requires that the instance be a symbol object.

The example is outdated, because CHICKEN 6 made define-record-type 
generative.

Would it be possible to extend the make-record-instance, etc. interface 
to allow for other objects as record types, so that the record type can 
be generative?
