I'm not sure I'm seeing the right data here. Is the string in "test-data1"
the equivalent of  

  (utf8->string #u8(240 159 164 171 32 97 115 99 105 105 32 226 128 148 32 195 
169 195 168))

?

If I replace the literal string with the above, the output looks correct.
