I'm certainly no expert, but I have read up on the subject. There are a couple things you can do that might help. (I am assuming you live in an area in which taking him outside to potty is not an option. Otherwise, replace "outside" for "on the pad" below.) First, keep an eye on your furry to catch him in the act. When you do catch him, slap your hands together to break his concentration. Then immediately take him to the pad where he can go and praise him lavishly for going on the pad. Avoid scolding him when he goes elsewhere because doing so will only make him nervous about going to the bathroom at all, and the scolding will also make him go off the pad when you aren't watching him. The other thing you can try is crate training. Gradually acquaint him with an enclosure until he is comfortable staying there on his own. Then keep him in the enclosure except for the times you take him to the pad to potty. Again, praise him royally when he goes on the pad until he learns that going on the pad is what you expect of him. For those times that he slips up and goes off the pad, buy a cleaner that neutralizes the odor as well as cleans the stain. I hope these suggestions help you. Good luck.
