I am no breeder, nor an expert, but in helping my sister with her litter of six we picked all the experts brains plus our vet.  Got a lot of information from Rhonda's chihuahua site on the internet ...  she is a breeder.  search for Rhonda's chihuhua, and it may come up.  Thru the advice we got and are following, mom nursed until 6 six weeks.  now separated mom during day from pups and left bowl of nutro lamb and rice puppy / canned, with a side of canin toy puppy food.  also water.  pups are doing great on this and don't miss mom although mom wants to get in room where pups are (she wants the food we are leaving for pups).  poop doesn't smell yet, and looks like rats poop.  at 7 weeks (next monday) will get first parvo shot and wormed.  will release pups at 8 weeks to a few select buyers.  we have also for the last 2 weeks been giving 1/4 tsp of nutri-cal paste per pup.  this is not meant to be a how to for anyone, just what we are doin ...  this will be our one and only litter ... a lot of work when done right..  pups also had dews removed at day 5 by vet.
