Does not matter the size of the male.  It matters the size of the genetics behind the male.  I have a 5 lb male who I can breed to a 4lb female and I get 2oz to 3oz babies.  My mommas have no problems with birth.  Yet I have a 3lb male and both females I bred with him had c-sections.  His parents are 4 and 5 lbs but who know what the grand parents are.

That is exactly right. However, even with a small father, you do not want to breed a 3 pound momma...reason being, just like humans, the size of the dad will not quarentee the size of the kid. The dad could have been the runt of a larg litter or something, or have a larger "lost gene", ect., and that would make the pups bigger and could cause difficulties for a small mom. Best bet....know the generational heritage of both parents and don't breed a chi female under 4 lbs.
