I did the same thing with FiFi. Now she is trusted enough so stay out 
during the day while we are gone. But since she was so used to being 
in her kennel, and actually likes it, we had no problems with her on 
the plane. She slept contently the whole 16+ hour trip. Other dogs 
that weren't used to being in a kennel, had a horrible time.   ~Lacey
