Your story reminds me of my departed Chi Joe. He had a stroke one day, and his front legs drew up under him. He couldn't walk anymore. Vet said he would probably live about 6 month like that. Everyone said put him to sleep, get him out of his misery!. But Joe was a hearing dog....I am Deaf. For 10 years, he took care of me...no way I could turn my back on him when he needed me. Of course, he had to retire as a service animal, but he remained my pet. He lived another 4 years before the Lord took him on. And he was HAPPY those 4 years! I had to carry him to potty ect., but he would crawl a short distance to his food bowl beside his bed, or to interact with his cat pal Puddy (who just about mourned herself to death when he did die!). Point is, he was my responsibility to care for and I don't regret a day of it! He died a natural death of old age and took a part of me with him.
