Thanks Marsha,

Sounds like you have your hands full.  I hope that the meds help both of them without further complications.  I can sympathize with Taz.  I am on disability because of my back.  He is lucky to have you.

As far as keeping a chi quiet --- that would be quite a feat!  Good luck J

So glad to hear Trinity is doing better! Yesterday, I had to take my chi and my mom's chi to the vet. Mom's Salt has been running a temp for about 2 weeks. We are not sure what is causing it, but he is certainly not acting right. Vet gave him some meds and told us to give the med a few days and if not better, bring him back Monday. He mentioned a possible appendix problem. I didn't even know dogs had an appendix! My Taz, who is crippled due to deformed legs, was unable to walk at all. (he has always walked, but his little legs turn in and are pretty deformed...he was a rescue) Anyways, yesterday, he couldn't walk and his leg looked more turned in than normal and he would sometimes hold it up....so I was afraid maybe he had broken it or something because he had got into a fight with another of my chis. X-rays reveled 1 deteriorated disk, 2 slipped disk and 1 ruptured disk in his back. He is on 3 different medicines. They seems to be helping with the pain, but he is still having difficulty walking. I pray he doesn't end up needing surgery, because I don't think he can survive the anesthesia due to his age and many health problems.

About 6 months ago, another of my chis ruptured a disk in his back and the same medicine regime really helped him. He now only has to take a pain pill occasionally. Vet has ordered they not be allowed to jump, climb stairs, ect. Explain to me how you keep a chi from following you EVERYWHERE??!!! If I go upstairs, they go, if I go down, they go, if I get in bed or on the couch, there they are and if I am just standing there, they are jumping in the air, each hoping to be the one I reach down and pick up!! So, naturally, I am finding it difficult top follow doctors orders! lol

Paige and Martha and Cyn  - Thanks for your thoughts.  As I just emailed Cyndie, Trinity is doing great now.  The Pepto gave her a major case of constipation.  We gave her bits of bread with lots of butter and that helped her out.  We really thought that we were going to lose her when she could barely walk and was shaking non-stop.  It was clear that her discomfort was coming from her stomach and hind end.  Once she was able to “go” she was much happier.  This morning she was still having a hard time jumping up on the couch, but as the day wore on she eventually got back to her old happy little self.

There was a recent discussion on another chi group I am on about this topic and someone had said that pepto bismal was dangerous for dogs. HOWEVER, I have always used the liquid form to cure diarrhea, vomiting, ect in my dogs and have found it to be helpful.....so not sure about that. However, I would say that ANYTHING in high dose would be bad. If a little chi got a hold of a lot...it could be dangerous and I wouldn't take chances if she is acting unwell. Hope you get through to the vet.

Does anyone know if Pepto Bismal tablets are dangerous to  chi’s.  Trinity got into some this morning but seemed fine all day.  I just came back from the store and she is definitely not feeling well.  My husband is trying to get a hold poison control and is on hold. I am so worried, I don’t know how many she actually ingested, there were crumbs and pieces of wrapper on the floor along with unopened ones. Thanks in advance.
