Kelly is exactly right. A larger chi is still a chi, just the same as a
small chi is just another chi and not a "teacup" or "toy".. I have seen many
beautiful chis over the 6 pound mark. A breeder should always try to breed
characteristics that are standard to a breed. In the case of chis the
standard is a small dog weighing 6 lbs or less with a short nose and a dome
shape head with full but not protruding eyes. Now how many of us love those
"deer faced" chis? They are not up to the standards, but they are still
chis. Dogs that do not meet the standards will, as Kelly said, be
disqualified from showing, and a breeder should avoid breeding a dog that
will not produce the standard, but otherwise, those "substandard" chis are
as much chis as those of champion bloodlines. It is really no different than
humans....we all may strive for those "model" bodies, but the reality of it
is, most of us are "substandard" :-) We are still full blooded humans! lol
(well, most of us)
