Marsha,
Be careful with feeding your cats dog food.
There is a mineral in cat food that isn't in dog food.
I know this because
I just lost my Princess *cat*. She was barely 2 years old and died of liver
failure. They could not pinpoint the cause but the Vet did tell me that
because I fed her strictly dog food it could have caused her to get
sick.
She was a beautiful shelter cat whom I adopted at 6 weeks old,
She was vaccinated/Spayed and the works. She NEVER went outside nor was she
around any other animals.
Because she was so sheltered it was
really hard for them to figure out why she got sick and they still don't know
for sure, but the Vet did tell me about the missing vitamins that cats need
that are not found in dog food and that could have caused or contributed to
her failure.
Just an FYI for ya

no, my pets and kids are not vegetarians. If they were, it would be
pretty hard to enforce...especially the cats....who are avid hunters! lol. I
am a vegetarian (since 1991) simply because I can't stand the thought of
animals dying for my benefit. I also do not buy leather, fur, ect or any
product that I know is tested on animals.
I actually cried a couple months ago when my cat brought me her latest
catch...a pregnant mole. the mole was dead and I could see the little sacs
of the fetuses poking out of the teeth holes and see the outlines of their
little bodies!
Honestly, I would not think that a vegetarian diet would be good for an
animal. There would be too many necessities missing from their diet. I know
most people, including experts and vets, will disagree with me, but I have
never believed that the expensive dog and cat food is any better for them
than the cheap brands. My dogs and cats both eat ol' roy dog food. the cats
will not eat cat food. Like I said, most people will strongly disagree with
me on the quality of food. But my pets get regular vet checks and are
healthy and happy, so I am happy paying less.

[Chihuahuas] vegetarian pets anyone?
marsha (and anyone elses thoughts)
In a post you said you are a vegetarian. I don't eat red meat
or poultry. I do eat seafood. Sophie gets the canned
chicken breast mixed in with a good dog food. Meat being the first
ingredient. Are your dogs and cats vegetarians? Either
way, what do you feed your pets? What do you think of a veg diet for
pets? I have a friend whose cat is a vegetarian and it's very
healthy and glows.
