As someone else has already stated, mom and pups should be able to come home as soon as they come out from under the anesthetic. That is, providing all goes well. Of course, if there are any complications, the vet may prefer to keep them over night for observation, but if you have a decent vet, they will be able to let you know if that is needed. But usually, they will be home that same day.
There was a case for me in which mom delivered one pup and had to have a cs for the second because it was stuck. She nursed the natural born pup, but would not have anything to do with the one that was taken. We tried to bottle feed it, and make it go to the bathroom, ect, but after 2 days it died. It is very difficult to make a newborn survive without it's mom. The hardest for me is always getting it to defecate. I don't think mom thought it was hers since she didn't give birth to it like she did the other. However, it was weird because when the pup was 5 weeks old, another pup, from another litter, whose mom would no longer allow it to nurse (she was trying to wean it), that pup went to the mom who had lost a pup and mom took it right in a nursed it. It nursed off her for 2 weeks! lol. The only thing that I have found to be common with c-s is that mom often has difficulty beginning milk production. I have had to have a shot given to stimulate milk production, and then there was no problem. There is not a doubt in my mind that my little mom has been uncomfortable from the incision ect., but like humans, she will bear whatever pain to care for her young. Basically, if doc says mom is fine to go and her milk is producing good, she should be able to care for her babies just fine unless she flat out don't want them. But that is rare.
