Any possibility she is just brushing up on her hiding/hunting skills? Puppies like to "hide" their food (it may not look hidden to you, but to a chi puppy, it is a great hiding job! lol), then they like to hunt it up again. My chis do this all the time! They hide their food in shoes, behind furniture, you name it. I also have one that will pick up one piece of food, go to the other side of the room, eat it, come back for one more piece, ect., and do this till it is all gone. Wears me out just watching!! Could this be what you pup is doing? Just playing with his food?

Subject: [Chihuahuas] Zoeys Eating Issue

Okay...I'm gonna try this one more time.   This is the 3rd time I have tried to type this and send it, darn incredimail deletes it and shuts down when I try to send ARGH!!!

Anyways, I am having some issues with my new little puppy Zoey eating.  She REFUSES to eat from a dog dish.  She scrounges around on the floor for ANYTHING & EVERYTHING she can find (been vacuuming like crazy to keep stuff off the floor but she finds it somehow)  Anyways she is eating Eukanuba Small  Breed Puppy moistened with Warm water mixed with some canned Euk. Pupy food.  She will eat it if I give it to her out of my hand, or if I put it directly on the floor, but WILL NOT eat it out of the dish.  I don't want her to get into the habit of having to be hand fed.  I am worried about Hypoglycemia too.  I have been giving her small amounts of Nutrical just in case each day.  Any tips or suggestions on how to get her to eat from a dish?  She licks the food but will not eat from the dish, she drinks the water just fine.  It is a shallow dish so it's not too big for her or anything.  I thought maybe it could be due to her overbite that possibly it was too hard for her to pick it up since her bottom jaw is shorter than her top.  But I don't know.  I just want her to eat good, and don't want to start any bad habits.
