Brindles are becoming very popular. As are Myrles. The reason you don't see many is because they are not natural to the breed. Chis do not carry a brindle or meryl gene. However, over the years, the genes have been bred into them. There is now a movement to recognize these with the AKC. Currently the AKC does not recognize these patterns in chis. That don't mean they can't be registered, just means that they are not on the list of recognized colors to choose from when registering. Brindles have not been as much of a problem, but the meryl gene has caused all sorts of health problems in chis, mostly blindness. It has taken a lot of dedication by breeders working diligently with the meryl and brindle gene to make them show up safely in chis. They are just now starting to do so. Before long, they will be as normal in a chi as the long hair is. Long haired chis was a result of the same process since chis do not naturally carry a long haired gene. Many years ago, these gene was bred into the chi and now it is an acceptable characteristic in a chi. You will see that happen with the meryl and brindle eventually.
