Who knows why dogs behave this way. I have had dogs in the past and
currently own Australian Shepherds, a Sheltie, and a Chihuahua.
Unfortunately, I purchased an Australian Shepherd from a local breeder that I
should not have been involved with. However, I brought home one of her
females that was purchased as a show dog. She was diagnosed with
demodectic mange and I fought with the breeder to allow me to spay her, since
this could be passed on to her pups. She was sweet
tempered around humans and any dogs that she met on the street during our walks
together. I could take her anywhere and she was very obedient. We
experienced some problems between her and my other female, but I kept them
separate. She was great with my males, but a few weeks ago while she was
out with my male Aussie and Sheltie, she viciously attacked the Sheltie and he
required surgery, and will probably need more. Why would a dog suddenly
turn on another animal this way? My poor Sheltie doesn't have a mean bone
in his body, but somehow this dog turned on him. And it happened so
quickly. I left to pick up my son from band practice and was gone about an
hour. My 16 year old was home and went upstairs, so she didn't hear
anything. I came home to blood curdling screams from my Sheltie and
immediately rushed him to the animal hospital. He had to be completely
shaved because every time they shaved a portion of fur, they would find
another puncture hole. Thank goodness I never left this Aussie with my
Chihuahua. I have complained about this breeder due to the fact that she
has been known to breed aggressive temperaments and continues to sell these dogs
to unsuspecting buyers.
