I agree with this whole heartly. However, Animal speicalists can go to far to. There was a shelter in the town I lived in, in Missouri. This shelter was so stupid. I had a fenced in yard, but my dogs had a bad habit of jumping that fence. Both of my dogs are GSDs. Once when they had taken off, the shelter's officers picked them up. My female is a product of a backyard breeder. She was very shy with strangers, and would circle around behind them. She never barked, or growled when doing this. Just silently circled behind because she was scared of strangers. The shelter put her down as a aggrsive dog, saying that it was an aggrsive act. It was a passive act, not aggrsive. I started a petition about it. The petition is to get the shelters to treat Pits like they would say a Chihuahua. To re-train ones they feel are aggrsive, or a fighting dog, and to get better punishments for the owners of dogs like this. I firmly believe that 99.9% of a dogs temperment is they way it is
rasied, and handled. Not it's breed, or breeding. It just makes me see red when I hear someone say a certin breed of dog is born mean. UGH.
Jennifer.
I agree mutts are definitely not stupid, and the breeds
mentioned are among some of the most intelligent. I don't think the problem is ever the dog. I think the problem is the human who has the dog. Any dog can be trained to be loving and obedient, and any can be trained to be vicious, disobedient, ect. I do not advocate punishment for animals....I advocate
punishment for the owner of those animals for their negligence and failure to take appropriate precautions. The poor dogs only do what they think they are suppose to do. We as humans, if we choose to domesticate an animal, take on
the responsibility of training that animal to live in our society. For instance, lets say someone lives in a "three strikes" area. I don't think on the third strike, the dog should be killed, I think the dog should be removed from it's owners, taken someone where a professional can "reprogram it" and the owner should be banned from owning any more! jmo
