Hi, I have always wanted a chihuahua and although those tiny puppies
are cute I decided to get an adult female. She is 2 1/2, spayed,
housetrained, 8 pounds (2 pounds are all fat). I am picking her up
Friday so we have the weekend with no work to adjust to a new home.

Aside from the millions of questions that I will search the archives
for before asking my initial need for information is regarding leash
training. She has never had a collar, halter or leash on. In her
very happy life (she is very social even with other dogs, sweet and
has obviously never been mistreated) it was not necessary to leash
train her.
I have a 9 year old Mini Schnauzer who gets to run around free in
the back yard a few times a day while I am outside with her but
after dark I have always taken her outside on a leash since I live
in So Florida and those toads are really bad business. I need to be
able to treat them the same and I realize that a halter, practice
and patience are the first order of the day but thought some of you
might have some advice. And if you think of anything you think will
be helpful in making the move better for either of us I would
appreciate it.
Well I am off to shop for small doggy things!
