Another thought....after re-reading and seeing that he is not aggressive toward others as he is you and your son, makes me think it likely he has simply gotten the upper hand of you all. He knows how to play you like a cheap fiddle. :-) He growls, so he no longer has to go in the kennel??? Not a good idea. This reinforced the behavior. He got what he wanted by being aggressive. Providing he gets a clean health check from the vet, maybe it is time to put your foot down and show him who the boss is, rather than trying to baby it out of him.
