Today we are recovering from a very narrow escape from tragedy.
Cricket chased the cat off the 10' high deck yesterday and tumbled
right down after her. I went out to feed the birds and shut the door
behind me. We never let Cricket go out on that deck as we haven't
had time to install a Cricket proof railing... sure enough... the cat
comes flying out of the house followed by Cricket. The cat jumped to
the tree and Cricket just launched herself after her. It all
happened so fast there was nothing I could do! I have to say it was
one of the most horrifying moments of my life. Cricket cried and
cried and in the end was completely unhurt, badly frightened, totally
rattled, but no injuries at all. I think the fact that she landed in
the mud saved her. She stayed on my lap the rest of the day, which
is right where I wanted her.

Hopefully, today will be a bit more mellow... no flying cats or
dogs. I'll be pulling the storm door closed behind until I can
install some lattice along the bottom rail. Whew, that was way too
close for comfort.
