I just feel very compelled to add my 2 cents here.  I do not have time to even consider feeding a raw diet to my animals, but even if I did I wouldn't.... Here is why....  When an wolf (wild dog) eats a raw diet... It is with freshly killed animals which do not have issues with bacteria yet.  Generally, wild animals do not eat dead animals that have been sitting around (except vultures and rodent type animals)....this is because of the bacteria that quickly accumulates.  I can tell you that the only way to kill bacteria is to heat the meat (cooking) to a specific temperature (each meat varies because of the tendency of different bacteria to grow in each meat.  I don't plan on hunting daily for my dogs... So they will either eat dog food or cooked meat without spices.... They also are given scraps that my husband gets when he is gutting an animal that he has killed for the family.  Just some fat to chew on overnight  and I am sure it will be met with great scrutiny.

Here is an interesting tidbit.  Maybe some one who doesn't feed raw would like to get on the FDA website and see what they have to say about pets and bacterias.  I kind of think the FDA may know what they are talking about.

Is Raw Food Safe To Feed My Pets?

Feeding raw meats, bones and veggies to your carnivorous pets is perfectly safe, In my opinion much safer than most commercial dry food.

According to an FDA news release, “salmonella is not harmful to dogs or cats ".

Salmonella is everywhere – not just in raw meats. Employ basic hygiene practices, wash your hands and keep surfaces clean – just as you would when handling your own food.

I’ve never heard of anyone having problems nor have I had any with my pets especially when practicing proper food handling.

In fact, many commercial foods you may be feeding your pets already have bacteria in them. For more information click on The Question of Bacteria in Processed Pet Foods.

Wrong! Cold does NOT kill the dangerous bacteria in raw meat! That bacterial merely goes dormant. It will begin to regrow as soon as the meat is allowed to warm up. My husband works as a Hospital Dietary Specialist and threw a fit when I told him about the raw vs cooked debate taking place on this list. He cited all the types of bacteria and microbes that will lie dormant in frozen meat. When the meat reaches room temperature, those same bacteria and microbes immediately begin to proliferate. Meat (and all other foods) should never be left unexaggerated for more than 2 hours. After 2 hours it can change properties and become toxic to humans and animals alike! Protein-based foods such as meat, cheese, and egg are the most dangerous. Haven't you listened to the news or read the news paper lately?
Raw chicken can, and often does, contain Salmonella. Let's face it, chicken purchased in any store, organic or otherwise is nothing more than the flesh of a dead, decomposing bird! Beef can be tainted with the bacteria that causes "Mad Cow Disease"! In the dietary department where my husband works, all surfaces that have been used to prepare raw meats are cleaned with bleach to kill the germs before they contaminate other foods. Even putting your hands near your mouth after handling raw meat can make you terribly ill!!! What are you people thinking? Do the research. You'll find that I'm telling you the truth.
