I forgot to tell you Sabrina is 7 months old and went into her first heat (she is in it now).

Occasionally you will see one go into heat as early as six months, and occasionally as late as a year, but a good questimate would be around 8 or 9 months for first heat.Be very careful as it can slip up on you and breeding at this age would not be good at all.

Someone else will have to help you on the "first heat" My chi had the one heat because I waited to spay her so her puppy teeth could be pulled at the same time if need be.  I cannot remember at what month (age wise her heat was)  Doggie pads working?  Do you mean the little doggie diapers?  They work to prevent her staining carpet and furniture, etc. but would NOT work in preventing her from becoming pregnant if there is a boy doggie around.
