I just wanted to give a bit of a "heads up" on micro chipping in case anyone is not too familiar with it.A Microchip, in regards to our precious chis, is almost a little piece of sand injected, under the chis skin, by a vet. I think when Sophie had it done by her breeder, with MY info, it ran around $35. I will be having Emily chipped, too. At a vet's, humane society, pound, etc, dogs are "waved with a wand" or "scanned" to see if they are chipped, so they can be returned to their owners. Microchip info CAN be updated. I have all the paperwork, but I'm too lazy to look it up, but I think updating is about $5.As much as I think the vast majority of people in this world are good good people, I worry sometimes that if our chis were to go missing, lost, ran out the door, we would be hard pressed to get them back!! I think every thing should be done re: IDs on your chi, etc. To get your chi back ASAP (even ASAP can prevent some "finder's keeper" from getting too attached to YOUR chi). Collars for WALKING a chi are a no no, but Sophie does wear a CAT collar around the house with her tags. Cat collars have a bit of stretchy elastic built into them so a chi could pull out of the collar in an emergency. I had a yorkie once that wore a "regular" collar around the house. One time she got her tags caught in the floor vents of our house and was in a BAD, choky, predicament when I "saved" her. I won't put a dog collar on my dogs around the house now. If my yorkie had been wearing a cat collar, I think she could of slipped it off in that emergency. (yorkie was fine but quite upset)
A chi should have a tag with a phone number on it that you could be reached on 24/7. Rabies tags are ok but NOT as good of an ID as a tag you would have made at PETCO,etc.A "finders keepers" could call your vet's office off a rabies tag and get your personal info, address, phone, but a plain ID tag is faster and you wouldn't have to worry, about with the rabies tag ID, the vet's office being closed for the night or weekend, etc.LOLL, sorry so long. Heheheh Let's keep our chis safe!!
