Hi Marsha and Pepper,
This was "Pixil's" first year with fireworks. At first she barked at
them, and growled at them, then, I praised her and told her "enough"
and she watched them very attentively. Since I take her to work with
me, and I work in a retail store, she started barking at every new
person who came into the store. This started to cause a problem, so,
I thought, how am I going to keep her ever vigilant of strangers, yet
stop barking at them when I acknowledge their presence. My niece came
up with the idea to gently hold her mouth with one hand, praise her
for her work (barking) then tell her "Enough" in a gentle, but
stern "business like" voice. This is working very well! We use it at
home when she barks at noises at the front door, or backyard, or on
walks when she barks at cars or strangers or other dogs, and so far so
good! Hope this helps other with the "barking" issues, cause it sure
worked for us!
Mary and "Pixil"
