In my opinion........wow
That's a statement
We had one Chihuahua for quite some time
But we decided to get another when she was about 3.
Well, it changed her life completely.
She went back to the funny happy play full puppy
We now have eight
They all have different personalities
Same as our children............
We raise our puppies with a lot of love
And who ever buys one of our puppies
Always wants a second one....
I now know why.......we play with them from the time they are born....
I just bought one, and she was cage raised.........
She runs from us
She hardly knew how to walk
Of course she now runs,,,,,,,,,,,
She loves all the other Chihuahua's
And they love her.......
But you just can't get her to come to you......
She goes on the puddle pad, every time
And is wonderful with that..............
We just hope we can give her enough love
To soon become just like our others
But we had just known, happy silly Chihuahua's
That wanted lots of love

This breed does tend to have the reputation of being a one person dog. And more often than not, it is true. But like humans, it isn't gonna be true for everyone. Chis do tend to prefer a small number of people. Sometimes it is just one person, and sometimes it is just two or three that they trust. But put yourself in their shoes....to them, we are giants. They come to know and trust that their person will always protect them, but they do not have this assurance from all the other giants they see. It really is understandable that they want to stick to the ones they trust.
Also, most chis are very sociable to other chis.or small breeds (Again, not ALL) A small playmate may work just great. You just gotta know your own chi's personality.
Of my 5 chis......Pepper loves everyone that hasn't already hurt or scared him. In otherwords, he gives everyone a chance, but does remember those who don't pass the test.
Taz and Dinah are scared of everyone except me.
Ginger loves everyone, but a lot of people get aggravated at her because she is one who will climb all over you and love you and kiss you rather you want her to or not. You can not make her not like you!! lol
Now Barley is just the greatest personality ever. Everyone, human, canine and feline alike (not to mention the rabbit!!) Loves Barley and he eats it up. But if you tell him to get away, push him away or anything, he will leave you alone and still be willing and ready to come back whenever you are ready for him.
There are no hardfast rules....just generalities. All chis are different.

Subject: {SPAMFILTER} [Chihuahuas] Are chihuahuas just naturally anti-social dogs??
I dont mean to sound like I am dissing the breed but you know how pitbulls have a reputation of being aggressive dogs, well chihuahuas have that reputation of being a nasty little anti-social who like to pick one master and then thats the ONLY person they will ever like. at first i thought it was all how you bring the dog up....well I have an 8 month old male chihuahua, and he is not nasty and has not it anyone but he is such a chicken!! and he does NOT like people. He likes these two little girls (my neighbors) and thats it for strangers. he likes me and my boyfriend (although he favors my boyfriend i think) and that is it... we bring him everywhere and he gets to meet new people and other dogs but he just doesnt want any part of it. it drives me crazy. i dont know what to do to socialize him, i am at loss... Any advice??? we were thinking about getting a second chi but we are not so sure about that anymore we are thinking of getting a pug because they are very friendly social dogs (i have owned pugs in the past) I figured getting a more social breed dog might help himout and influence him??? I dont know what to do, please help.
