The goal of showing dogs is to improve the breed, period.
Other
than artifical insemination, breeding two un-neutered dogs is
the only
way to do this.
Yes, some people show to boost their own ego and
name,
but that is their personal agenda. A showdog must
meet the
breed standard of perfection, temperament etc.
A true breeder only
breeds his/her dogs to better the
breed as well, not to provide
puppies to consumers, but
clearly they will have some to sell to very
selected buyers.
If you buy from a breeder of show dogs (even if it
is
a "pet quality" dog) you will find that
you have to pass very
much the same requirements that
a good rescue group requires, including
required
neutering if the dog is not show quality. These are
not
"backyard breeders" who will sell to anyone who
arrives on their
doorstep, or who breed because the
dog needs to "experience
motherhood".

thing I have never understood about
showing dogs. I do not show, but I
know a lot of people who do. I
don't understand why they would have
the requirements that a show
dog not be spayed/neutered. I mean if you
do not plan to breed, then
there are many health benefits to the dog
to get it fixed....why
cheat the best of them out of those health
benefits??? Just don't
make much sense to me, lol

have been given,
but I didn't see that anyone suggested the most
important thing. If
the dog was kept as a show prospect, that means he
was most likely
intact. If you haven't had him neutered, you should do
so
immediately. Any intact male dog is more prone to have dominance
issues.
