the 1st one or two are he-- to potty train but after that it is a breeze. I have 2 and 3 month old babies that go on the paper. They follow the leader.. What you have to do is use paper , pee pee pads, or you can use the material pads. If you only have one or two dogs they are nice.. I use them with paper on top and then wash them a couple times a week.. They don't smell and work great.
Anyway, YOU HAVE TO CONFINE YOUR DOG WHILE TRAINING> it is the only way he will learn. I keep my chi's in my dining room which is big and I put belly bands on them when they come on the rug.. I don't want to chance any laziness so I do that but for the most part they go on the paper and I change it. When your guy goes potty put him on the paper , reward good behavior. Make a big deal out of it when you get what you want. But keep him in a area close to you but only let him run around if you sit and watch him. It is important for the training period.. Also, if he is just a pet and you don't plan to bred then I would neuter him . It keeps them young longer and they tend not to mark things..
