Hi! There are a lot of different registration groups out
there. AKC, CKC, ACA, Apri, ect just to name a few. The difference is in the
eyes of the beholder for the most part. There are pros and cons of each group
and you will find people who are adamantly for or against any of them.
Basically, it boils down to a matter of personal preference. As to which to
choose, often depends on what is the norm in your own area.
I have just tried my first time with stud service (I have the
female) so I don't have much to offer as far as knowledge in that area, but
during my research for a stud service, I found that in my area the going rate
for CKC tends to be about $250 or pick of litter. My chi was AKC, so I didn't
pursue any of the CKC ones. The stud I did finally go with was a pick of the
litter deal. So in the end, if there are no pups, there is nothing to pick
from.
If money is exchanged, it would depend on what kind of deal
the parties entered. If you are contemplating something like this, I would
suggest that what ever deal you enter into, you put it in writing, including as
many possible outcomes as possible (what if there are no pups...do you get money
back or do you wait and try again, ect)
I also found during my search that most stud owners require a
vet cert of health and up to date immunizations. As for whether kennel cough
should be specifically mentioned, that again is a matter of choice. If it is a
concern for you, then by all means include it! :-)
I know I didn't have a lot of facts to offer, since this is
something I am rather new to myself, but I hope it helped some. :-)
