Hello to the group. My family has just rescued a 1 1/2 year old
chihuahua from a shelter. He has been in 4 homes in his short life
and has been through quite a bit. Anyway, so far the transition
process is going well. I have a 4 year old, male (n) standard poodle
and the two of them seem to be hitting it off so far. The little guy
was in the shelter for 7 months and was having a hard time being
placed in a home because he was pottying in the house all the time.
We decided to housebreak rather than pan (litter) train. So far, he
has had no mistakes in the house. I work from home (grooming shop)
and have the time to watch him and let him out very frequently.
Just a question, do most of you housebreak or pan train? I have
heard that most pan/litter train because when it's cold or wet they
don't like to go out.
I'm hoping that with real dilligence and hard work, we can get him
trained well enough by the time the snow flies, that he won't break
training come winter.
I have a cousin that has a miniature pincher (close to the same size
as Bentley) that is beautifully housebroken as long as he gets his
booties & jacket on in the winter.
any feedback would be welcomed.
Tami
