2 weeks ago Bambi[ 12 yrs old] had her first seizure [that I know of] and had two a few hours apart and one early the next morning. I raced her to the vet that morning and he perscribed potassiam Bomide twice a day for one week then once a day. So far she hasn't had another seizure that I know of. Vet said they can start for no apparent reason..or a tumor or something on the brain. At 12 we woudn't operate anyway on her brain if she HAD a tumor..so the cost o a MRI cost around $900 here would just be wasted. If she was younger I would go ahead but its too stressful at her age and knowing won't do any good. But like I said..the Bromaide seems to be working....so we don't have to use Phenobarb like I did on my poodle, Jock, all his life. He awaiting us at the Bridge..he lived till he was15 so that is a good long life. He was getting senile and incontent at the end. Ask your vet about your options. Keep us posted! It is horrible watching a seizure in your furbaby but my vet sayes it much more common than you would think in animals.

I'm sorry your having to go through that. None of my Chihuahuas have had seizures, but I did have a mixed breed that had them. Shadow, he was a big lap dog. Seizures are very hard to watch. The vet told me to give Shadow honey or karo syrup. It did seem to help him. Some dogs only have occassional seizures every once in a while some have them bad. Shadow started out having them maybe every 3-6 months usually when he got excited. As he aged they got worse. He was put on meds. then he had to be put down last year. He was 9 years old and about 50 pounds. Hopefully your dog will never have another one. Betty
