I don't know many who crate their dogs for that period of time. An option is an expen (when I got Angel, I'd never heard of that - I just used a small bathroom while we were at work - part of it had her newspaper, part of it had her food, water, and toys) or playpen.
"They" say a dog won't go where it sleeps, so if you put them in a crate, it should only have enough room to stand up, turn around, etc. but not be big enough where they could lay down 'here' and poo/pee 'there'. Well, when Angel was in a crate as a baby - she sure enough did "go" in the crate. Guess she was in there too long to hold it. So she got a 'space' instead of a crate. And that seems more humane
to me anyway if they're going to be there for hours.
