Do u use the doggie treat and praise, even when she goes outside? Then when she goes inside on the floor use a very stern, disappointed voice with her......but praise and treat if she goes on pad. They, like toddlers, strive to please the person they love. They only know by ur tone of voice if they r pleasing u or not. I had the same trouble with my Minnie chewing up the pad so I only have a pad in her crate tray and trained her to go potty on one side of the crate. Since her crate has a grid in the bottom of it, she can not get to it to chew it up, and the pee goes right through to the pad, so she never walks on a wet pad. It's a lot easier to pick up a #2 on the grid also. She never goes outside. I got her at 10 weeks old, on Dec 26, 2005. She weighed 3/4 lb. It was way too cold for her to go outside. By the time the weather warmed up she was all trained to go inside the crate, and as the old saying goes, if it ain't broke, don't try to fix it. Changing the pad once or twice a day is easier than taking her out anyway :-) . I buy the pee pads off Ebay, by the case of 200, so they r real cheap. Since she only pees on one side of her crate, I can cut the pads in 1/2 and get 400 pads out of a case. I'm still using the case I bought last Jan., but will start on a new case soon.

Well, Ava isn't doing so well with the housetraining after all. (Ava is my longhair, 2 yr old Chi, adopted 1 month ago).
I was wondering if anyone had any advice for us.
Here's the situation:
I feed her in the morning before work - 8:15am- then take her potty. She goes.
I come home on my lunchbreak (no accidents) at 11:45 am- take her potty. She goes.
I get home from work about 5:30 (no accidents) - take her potty. She goes.
THEN the trouble begins. When I'm home, when my back is turned, when I'm in the other room - she will go on the floor. She's so quick I've only caught her in the act maybe two times total.
So, I tried getting puppy pads and putting those in her favorite spot on the carpet. She will go RIGHT BESIDE the puppy pad. Then I catch her chewing and playing with the puppy pad (so much for those working! ha!)

I haven't crated her because this is such a weird thing... she doesn't have a problem when I'm gone... it's when I'm home. She's such a wonderful dog! This is the only thing I'm having problems with.

The only thing I can think of is that she needs to have a set routine... maybe the reason she goes outside during the day is because it's such a set schedule... she knows when the potty break will be. But at night when I'm home there's not a specific set time that I take her out.
Do you think it might be helpful to set a timer while I'm at home and take her outside like clockwork? That's the only thing I can think of.

Thank You for any/all suggestions that you have!!!
