Introducing the new puppy
In regard to the weight and health of your 16 lb, talk to your vet about it.
Mine is 17 lb and the vet said she should probably weigh in the 11 pound range. While her AKC papers say full-blood chihuahua, a few people have said they think she might be a mix. Doesn't matter to me. But that could explain the extra weight.
I either read or heard recently that a dog who is not overweight can live up to five years longer. That's a lot.
After you find out from your vet what they think he should weigh, then you can work on a 'diet' plan. This could include substituting some carrots and/or no-salt green beans for some of his kibble. You could also look into a lower calorie kibble, unless the one you use is one of these. You can cut down on his food and/or increase his exercise to help lose some weight. But talk to your vet about all this - you need the insight into his health and any limitations, etc. And some guidance on how much to feed. Are you feeding him a quality food?

Hi Everyone,
I was wondering if someone can give me some infomation on a problem I
think I have started for myself. Well to start off I have a neutered 7
year old Chihuahua most of the time he has just been with my husband
and myself and he does not like other breed of dogs. Well my daughter
moved back home and brought her 2 year old chi baby and he loved her,
they lived with us for about 14 months and my daughter left to go on
the road and took her baby with her. My baby looked for her and seemed
to be mooping around SO I think I made a mistake. We went and got a
precious little Chi-Poo that is 4 months old, well my baby tolarates
him but the puppy is after him all the time and he can't rest any and
now he tries to nip at the puppy (of course I guess I would to)and
another thing my baby is a short leg Chi and weights 16 lbs I don't
want him to have a heart attack. Could someone Please give me some
advise on what to do? Should I get rid of the puppy? Will he get used
to it? I'm really desperate here, I was just trying to get him a
friend so he wouldn't be lonely but I don't want to lose him either.
Thanks In Advance for any help,
Debbie from Tennessee
