Hi, I'm a new visitor to this site but an old chihuahua hand, been
owning and working with the little ones for almost 20 years now.
Here's a place where a picture of me and Swee'Pea getting on the
motorcycle made it into a book of photographs on New York City

I'm glad we got into that book because it came out just before those
planes took the Trade Center down and many of the photos either
featured the Trade Center or had it in the background of the shot, so
somehow that made it more important to be in that book.
Anyway, I recently corresponded with a poster from this site who was
in a tizzy because their vet had completely misdiagnosed a couple of
very simple and common chihuahua ailments, namely reverse-sneezing and
morning bile purging. The vet had charged a fortune and given useless
medication for common problems that any long-time chihuahua person
knows are easy to deal with, with the simplist of remedies. What a
dummy that vet is, and a crook too!
So that made me wonder if anyone would like to share their BEST or
WORST vet stories? I'll start. Lets take the ones above as WORST.
So here is a BEST. Back when little Swee'Pea, the dog in the picture,
was a youngster, one night she took to vomiting and diarheaa, bad and
bloody. and it wasn't stopping. So it was like 3 in the morning, so I
called the vet's office, knowing that no one was there, but just
figuring at least this way I'll be the first message he gets when he
comes in in the morning and said what was going on. Much to my SHOCK
my phone then rings at about 4 AM, turns out the vet called in to get
his messages, and didn't like the sound of her condition and told me
to get her right up to the 24-hour clinic (one good thing about
NewYorkCity), for fluid infusion. Might well have saved her life with
that 4 AM phone call for which he was paid exactly zero, she
is sitting on the couch now looking at me as I type, an old
great-great Grandma chihuahua, smart and sassy as ever, just no teeth
left is all.
