I agree too! Rein goes nuts when I come home after being gone even for a very
short while.
Another thing that makes me think her licks are kisses is the way she plays
with all of us. When she's playing with my husband, son, or daughter she plays
like she's trying to grab their hands with her mouth - mouth open and making
fun, playful sounds. When she comes over to me though, or if I join in, I just
get lots of kisses, then she runs back to the rest of them and starts playing
again! The kids say she does it 'cause she loves her mommy!
Another thing she does, which I've never seen a dog do before, is climb up on
my shoulders and lay there. She's done it in the car, but then she has the
back of the seat to hold her there. When I'm doing something or walking
around, I have to keep a hand up on her to make sure she doesn't fall off.
Whiles she's up there, if I turn my head and say something to her, she gives me
quick kisses. Has anybody ever had their Chi do this laying on the shoulders
thing? It sure keeps my neck nice and warm now that it's cold!

I agree with Marsha. They may be licking us for the taste of food or
sweat, BUT my Chi
will not kiss just anyone with food or sweat sticking to them. :) He is very
particular!
The other clue is that he kisses us when he first sees us after a separation
than he does if
we've all been hanging out for a few hours. That suggests it's a greeting.
Dogs have such a rich olfactory life, maybe the scent of a loved human adds
savour to the
delicious junk stuck to our skin. :)
