My Chaz doesn't wear the collar for restraint, I used it to keep him on the leash at one point, but now that I've gotten him down to listening to commands when he leaves the house, I have no need, unless I take him into a store - I am looking into a harness for him though.

He has an old worn out flea collar that is probably 6 years old and it so loose you can slip it over his head, but he does not want it taken off. If you take it off, he will try to put his head back in it. It isn't used as a restraint of any kind and the least bit of pressure will pull it off, but he likes it, so I let him keep it, lol. Other than that, none of them wear collars. No, currently it's one of those 10 feet plastic handled lock leashes, where I can cut down his distance. bumdick ©2005 To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]: [EMAIL PROTECTED]: Thu, 14 Dec 2006 19:00:48 -0500Subject: RE: [Chihuahuas] Went To Petsmart.. do you use a collar or a harness when he is on the leash? Sheila From: [email protected] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Amanda.Sent: Thursday, December 14, 2006 6:46 PMTo: [EMAIL PROTECTED]: [Chihuahuas] Went To Petsmart.. I was in petsmart today, and I looked into getting Chaz's nails done. He's a boston terrier/chihuahua mix. The lady in the groomingdepartment said she can't groom him unless he's had his rabies shot. IKNOW rabies shots are mandatory, but right now I'm waiting to get ituntil I get him fixed so everything can be done at once (beforesomeone rips my head off) - she told me that he'd have to have hisrabies shot being a chihuahua, because she cannot put a muzzle on him.I asked her why and she told me that chihuahuas are prone to squeezingor a flat trachea and it's because putting him in a muzzle may put himunder stress since Chihuahua's are very nervous animals. So, I waswondering has anyone heard anything about this? I've never readanything about it. Also are there some alternatives that I can gothrough at home to getting his nails down? I take him for walks quitea bit around the blacktop basketball court around my neighborhood, andhis nails are still so long. Also, I looked into leash training him now that I know about thetrachea problem - I'm just wondering what methods people suggest. Ionly use a leash currently when he needs to go pee (even though wehave a fenced in backyard, we have dogs that stay outside all day andbark when he's out so of course he tries to run towards it) and when Itake him into pet stores. The method I read about is just stopping inplace when he tries to tug you, so he can't go anywhere. I'm justwondering if there's any other alternative that may work better.-Amanda Express yourself with gadgets on Windows Live Spaces Try it!
