Hi..
Yesterday, year-old Machi went on his first kayaking trip. Actually
I took him out on our lake in the afternoon for him to "get his feet
wet" as it were so it wouldn't be such a shock when I took him on my
xmas-decorated kayak for the evening pre-boat parade kayak parade
(hope that made sense)in Key Largo.
He did just fine. He had a sweater under his PFD (lifejacket), a
small blinking red light, and was bundled up in a fleece blankie. He
was snuggled on my lap. Every now and again I would hold him up for
the boat parade viewers (people in water-front restaurants). Then I
let a young girl (9-ish) hold him while I got myself out of the
boat. Her father said, "Thank you for letter her hold him."
Charley (long-haired chi/pom now deceased) and Canela (20 lb
golden/spaniel mutt) both love(d) to go kayaking with me. All I had
to do was wave their PFDs and the tails started wagging.
I took them on beach camping trips, a driving/camping trip to Mexico,
and umpteen other camping trips in tents and in my popup camper.
That is one consolation about losing Charley a few months ago...he
certainly had a lot of fun! One friend said, (as we kayaked across
the inlet to the beach campsite, "Oh, Sandy, why can't you treat him
like a normal dog!"
My neighbor (who sits the dogs) said to Machi, "You are going to be
spoiled." hee hee
